Seniors

Class of 2024


Guidance and our Graduation Coach, Mrs. Kavanaugh (Cavin awe) have some info for you

 First up is some scholarship news

  1. They have a Scholarship newsletter to help you stay up to date on scholarships. Visit the school website—-that’s www.gorebs.org—----or stop by the guidance office. 

  2. There is a scholarship open NOW. That’s the Coca-Cola Scholarship. It’s due by October 2nd, but why not jump on that now?

3.     For those planning to attend ULM in the fall, you can apply FOR FREE. The code to apply is “GOOD LUCK.”

 

And our last piece of news for seniors

4.  FCS will host Senior Sunrise at 6:00 am Wednesday, August 23rd on the football field.  Come join us for a guest speaker, music, and pictures.  Please bring a blanket and breakfast.

Ok, SENIORS, you are all caught up. Stop by guidance if you need information on anything for the senior class.

 

CLUB NEWS:

If you are interested in Biology Club, it’s time to sign up . 

Things to know: 

  • Even if you were in the club last year you must re-apply to be a part of this year’s club. 

  • To join, you must bring a donation for our local animal shelter. They are asking for puppy food, kitten food or cat litter to get signed up. Donations for the shelter are due by Sept 1st to Mrs. Knox in room 3109. 

The sponsor of BIOLOGY CLUB is Mrs. Knox, so see her for more information, or you can ask your science teacher.

 

Interact Club 

If you were a member last year, you will have a meeting in the library this Tuesday at 6pm to 

  • discuss the decorations for this year's Homecoming Dance

  • pick a new club t-shirt

  • discuss our new membership drive 

  • and to elect new officers. 

Again, this meeting is just for last year's members. 

More info is coming out next week about how to apply to be a new member of the Interact Club. 


 

If you are interested in joining Student Council or you are already a member

 there will be a meeting on Tuesday September 5th @ 6:30 pm in the WMHS library.  

Please see Mrs Jones in room 4208 or Mrs Nix in room 3105 if you can’t make the meeting but would like more Information.  

 

 

Anyone interested in Junior Civitans and anyone who is already a member of Junior Civitans

Your first meeting is Tuesday, August 29th, at 3:15 in room 6206. 

Just in case you don’t already know,

Junior Civitans is an international youth service organization dedicated to helping our school and community, with an emphasis on people with special needs and developmental disabilities. 

For more information on Junior Civitans, contact Mrs. Beach in Wing 6.

 

National Honor Society: 

Senior National Honor Society members listen up, 

The mandatory fall meeting is this Thursday in the auditorium at 6 PM. If you are interested in running for an officer position, you must complete the Google Form posted on the Google Classroom. The form closes Wednesday night so make sure your information is submitted before the form closes. The voting for officers will take place at the meeting Thursday. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Lovelady in 7101.

 

The WMHS MAGNAtech Robotics Team will resume meetings this week to begin preparing for the 2024 competition season called "CresCendo"!  In addition to the big ideas that science, technology, engineering, and math help inspire, this year's game will focus on creativity and the arts. 

Why Don’t you Join this team’s arts-inspired robotics season!  You are welcome to come and visit with them after school this Tuesday from 3:15-6:00. If you have any questions, please see Mr. or Mrs. Lovelady in the STEM Building or Ms. Cady in 3203.

 

Chase Leadership Academy will hold orientation for 11th and 12th graders interested in joining at 1:00 this Thursday, August 24th  in the library. If a student has any questions or needs more details, see Miss Tubbs in Room 4109.

 

FCS will begin having meetings Wednesday, August 30th in the New Gym at 7:15 am. Everyone is welcome to attend.  They usually have guest speakers from local churches or from our student body

 

For those interested in Key Club 

  • Applications are available outside room 3103. 

  • Deadline for applications and payment is September 5th. 

  • Payments are set up in the online payment center. 

  • Old members must re-apply. 

  • First meeting will be announced soon as well as service projects. Check your google classroom regularly.

 

Hey Rebelnation!!!

Rebelnation membership is open now for all Rebels. 

Things to know

  • We will have a student section at the Jamboree this Friday. 

  • Membership will be required at the first home game on September 1st, but won’t be required for the Jamboree. 

  • If you purchase an athletic pass online, you will automatically receive membership to Rebelnation student section. 

  • If you do not purchase an athletic pass, you can join with a small $3.00 fee. Payment can be made in room 3103 (Pickering), 3105 (Nelson), or 4105 (Taylor). 

 

Attention all Board Game Enthusiasts

The Board Game Club will have an interest meeting next Wednesday the 30th after school in the library.

 

We have a new club on campus. 

  •  FCSS is a space where Spanish-speaking students come together to start their week off brightly. 

  • FCSS will begin on August 28 in room 1113.We will be having our meetings on Mondays from 7:15 to 7:40. The entrance will be through the Old Gym wing. We will have a guest speaker. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Yaldara in room 1113.

 

In Sports news

 

The Lady Rebels Volleyball Team will be kicking off their season this week by hosting 2 scrimmages. One scrimmage is versus Ouachita  this afternoon with the Freshmen starting at 4:30. The other is Thursday with a start time at 4. Come out and show your WM spirit tonight and Thursday!

 

In Other NEWS

 

School pictures for the yearbook will be Tuesday, August 29th and Wednesday, August 30th in your English class.

Get that haircut and outfit before next week! These pics will be things you look back on some day. 


 

WMHS will administer the ASVAB Career Inventory on Sept 28th. The test is ENCOURAGED for all Juniors

The ASVAB is a comprehensive career exploration and planning program.

You can sign up with your U.S. History teacher, but you need to do that by Sept 8

All ROTC Cadets will sign up with Colonel Hart or Sgt. Campbell. 

Seniors who want to test should sign up with Mrs. Corie Williams or any U.S. History teacher.

 

Students who drive to campus,

If you are not a part of AFJROTC, you are not allowed to park around the ROTC building. Students who park illegally around the building will be given a red notice for the first warning and administration will handle any additional consequences.

 

Speaking of Driving…..All those interested in Driver’s ED

You can now start signing up for Coach Osborne's driver's ed class online at gorebs.org.  

To do that……

  • Click on online payments to find the class.  

  • The class will start Wednesday after Labor Day weekend.  

  • The cost is 295 and you must be 15 and have a TIP Card.  

Any questions go see Coach Osborne in the PE gym or cafeteria during lunch.

 

Last, but certainly not least……

 

KREB is looking for some new members. 

Today is our first broadcast, but we are planning some different and interesting stuff for this year. We need YOU to make that happen.
